So I know I'm a little late with posting this, but we had such a fun time during the rescue course taught this weekend. Jeff Nance, one of our instructors, taught the class to a group that was going to be doing research on invasive species and the overall health of the reef. The work that this group was going to undertake after being certified as Rescue Divers made the class really cool because there was an emphasis on scenario's that were most likely to happen during their work. Out of air drills, unconscious diver at the surface, and surfacing an unconscious diver were the main topics on the day I decided to sit in. Rescue courses are always fun, especially for me because they help to boost my confidence and awareness of situations that might present themselves during my dives here at the shop. In between scenario's I also followed the group around as we looked for seahorses which can be found there (Makai Pier) and I got to learn about various types of invasive algae and plants that are taking over the reef.
